Join for safe, creative and educational activities on-site at the Historical Society during Winter Break, February 9-11

Pointillism Painting

February 9th, 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m., ages 8–12

Re-create and reinterpret the centerpiece of our new exhibit: Childe Hassam’s The Red Mill, Cos Cob. In this session, students will learn about the Cos Cob art colony, Impressionism, Pointillism, perspective and the refraction of light. By the end of the class, students will have created their own version of The Red Mill with their own unique spin.

Ships in the Harbor

February 10th, 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m., ages 7–10

Inspired by our new exhibit’s look at the history of Cos Cob Harbor, this class will focus on creating a pair of paper boats. Students will learn about Greenwich’s shipping history, historic boat building, buoyancy and structural integrity. By the end of the class, students will have created two beautiful, functional paper boats to take home.

Mini Monster Makers

February 11th, 1:00 p.m.–2:30 p.m., ages 6–8

Take a page from the book of former Greenwich resident Jim Henson, and create some monsters. In this class, students will learn a little about Jim Henson’s time in Greenwich and the history of puppetry, and create three different types of puppets.

Blast off with our virtual mini coding camps and classes during Presidents’ Day Break!

Looking for engaging activities for your child during Presidents’ Day break? Look no further! At The Coding Space, we’re on a mission to help kids develop creative thinking skills, confidence, and self-expression through learning to code. Whether kids are new to coding or already proficient in programming languages like JavaScript and Python, our interactive, virtual coding classes and camps are fun for everyone. Our experienced instructors balance screen time using our signature 4:1 student-to-teacher ratio with hands-on activities, games, and opportunities to create and explore, even in your own home.

Join for this 2.5 hour workshop! Register for both morning and afternoon and lunch is on MacInspires! Students choose from pizza or a sandwich and we hang out Noon to 1PM. For students signed up for both morning and afternoon sessions, the afternoon session progresses on the morning’s challenges, providing something new, fun and educational.

Digital Bruce Beginnings: Valentine’s Day

This program, for children ages 3 through 5 and their caregivers, is led by a museum educator and includes a discussion of one of the Museum’s exhibitions and collections, a related storybook, and suggestions of interactive activities adults and kids can do together.

February Vacation Outdoor Drop-Off Days

Monday, February 15 (FULL) & Tuesday, February 16 (FULL)- 2nd classroom added for both days!

9:30 am – 12 pm | For ages 4-9

Spend your winter break outside! February can bring snow, maple syruping, and great winter birds! We’ll explore what’s happening outside in our forest and look for early signs of spring. Although we’ll have our own private classroom and bathroom, we’ll be outside as much as possible. Limited to 8 students/classroom. Please bring a nut-free snack and drink. Children must wear masks whenever inside or whenever they cannot socially distance outside. Additional information will be sent to registrants.

Members: $30/day | Non-members: $35/day
