June 27 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Native Plant Day with Kim Eierman of EcoBeneficial LLC
Saturday, June 27, 2026 | 10:00AM to 5:00 PM | GBC Gallery
Offered in Partnership with New York Botanical Garden

Celebrate Native Plant Day on Saturday, June 27 with an immersive, three-class course at Greenwich Botanical Center, presented in partnership with the New York Botanical Garden. Led by native plant expert Kim Eierman, this program is designed for gardeners, designers, and plant enthusiasts looking to create landscapes that are both beautiful and ecologically supportive.

Guests may register for individual sections or attend all three. From native plant selection and understanding ecotypes, to designing a succession of blooms that support pollinators from spring through fall, to applying ecological principles in native landscape design, each session offers practical guidance rooted in regional ecology. Join us for one class or the full day and leave inspired to build healthier, more resilient landscapes.

Section One: 10am-12pm: Native Plant Selection
When choosing native plants, you must ask the right questions to get the best results. Kim Eierman will help you sort out the mysteries and complexities of native plant selection including:  Am I buying a genetic clone, and does it matter? What are local ecotypes and where can I buy them? Are native cultivars ok? Are dwarf nativars ecologically-useful? Which native plants require pollination partners and how do I source them?  Get the answers you need to make your native landscape both beautiful and eco-beneficial.

Section Two: 12:45pm-2:45pm: Creating a Succession of Native Blooms
If you want to attract and support pollinators, continuous succession of bloom is an absolute imperative in any landscape.  From early spring through late fall, different species of pollinators look for different types of plants at different times of year. Some plants are much more useful to pollinators than others.  Learn what you need to know to make your garden beautiful and pollinator-friendly throughout the growing season with great choices of regional natives.

Section Three: 3pm-5pm: Principles of Native Landscape Design
Native landscape design adds an important dimension to traditional garden design, namely ecological landscaping principles.  Learn how to make your landscape beautiful while creating a high-functioning ecosystem.  We’ll address techniques like referencing local plant communities, using natural layers in the designed landscape, creating natural habitats for pollinators, natural enemies, birds and other wildlife, using biodiversity and genetic diversity, incorporating keystone species and using “Cues to Care.”
