As school districts across our area decide what the 2020-2021 school year will look like, many of us are also deciding what learning models we are most comfortable with for our children.
For some of us this means either all or partial distance learning, homeschool or pods. That also means that many of us will be looking for tutors and education services to offer our children additional support.
So, Greenwich, New Canaan, Darien and Stamford Moms have put together a Tutoring & Education Services Guide for the 2020-2021 School Year.
Scroll down for tutoring companies, teachers and education consultants who are all available to help your child (Pre-K through college) excel during this unpredictable academic year.
The founder and principal instructor, Nate Jezzi, is an academically trained philosopher (Ph.D. Cornell, B.A. Georgetown) with over five years of experience tutoring and coaching students one-on-one online.
He also has over fifteen years of experience teaching high school, college, and graduate students at a variety of institutions, including Cornell University, Bard College, the University of Aberdeen, Albyn School, Lafayette College, and the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth.
Friends, I have taught Advanced Placement and regular level 11th Grade U.S. History and U.S. Government & Politics at Scarsdale High School for more than two decades. I am a Columbia University PhD and a Teachers College graduate who also spent seven years tutoring students from Greenwich in U.S. History (academic support, preparation for school tests and assignments and College Board AP and subject tests) at Advantage Testing in Rye.
On a leave of absence due to Covid concerns and without classes of my own at the moment, I have placed on a website the complete audible U.S. History survey course (accompanied by thousands of visual slides) that I had planned to teach in Scarsdale had we been in a distance learning environment. The site is intended for US History students at any level and can offer help to students in many ways: Some are better auditory learners. Some may need to review material efficiently and comprehensively for exams. Some may be challenging themselves in advanced courses and need to review content at a pace they can control. Some may not be getting a full US History survey course experience with school disrupted by Covid-19. Some students may need academic support but don’t require the time and expense of one-on-one tutoring and prefer just a careful, clearly explained review of important material, from someone with deep expertise, at a time convenient for the student.
On the site you will find free samples of what my lessons sound like, a comprehensive professional biography/resume and dozens of detailed reviews of my teaching, along with individual lessons described and available for purchase.
This project aims not just to help the students and families who purchase lessons but others as well. Substantial proceeds from any lesson purchased are being donated philanthropically and providing tuition assistance to train the teachers of tomorrow (most of whom will work in immensely under-resourced urban schools) through Teachers College, Columbia University.
As an experienced tutor and teacher, I am happy to discuss one-on-one tutoring with you too. For questions about the course or inquiries about my tutoring availability I can be reached at email@example.com.
