The Parent Collective Expands Its Offering to New Parents with A Postpartum Support Group Series of Classes offering Community and Postpartum Support to Local Parents
After having her children in the UK, Jessica Hill, a Westport mom, designed and successfully launched a prenatal class series – The Parent Collective (TPC) which is now operating in Fairfield County, CT, NYC, Long Island and New Jersey. Building on their success, they are now expanding their offering to include a postpartum support group for parents. “Often new parents feel isolated in those early weeks home with a baby. I have even had friends tell me they were excited to go back to work after 6 weeks because they felt trapped with no one to talk to. We built our prenatal education program to help alleviate this for parents by connecting them with other local families having babies at the same time. Now we are launching a postpartum group to further support new parents through friendship and education.”
The program, which is modeled on the well-respected National Childbirth Trust (NCT), arms first time and experienced parents with all the knowledge needed to navigate parenthood as well as a network of friends and confidants to call on in the first few months/years. Participants in these classes are sorted by neighborhood and due date to help facilitate lasting friendships with expectant parents who live local to each other and are going through similar experiences.
In their postpartum series TPC offers new parents an opportunity to discuss issues new parents face, hear from others about their experiences and learn about topics of interest, local support services and offerings available to them including: sleep support, feeding (breast AND bottle), self-care, infant massage, parent & baby yoga, how to play with your baby, nutrition & weaning, music as a stress reliever for parent and baby and many more.
There will be plenty of time to get your questions answered, meet other parents and socialize!
All of TPC’s programming is taught by highly trained facilitators. Their prenatal education classes are taught by labor and delivery nurses and midwives and the postpartum support group will be run by newborn care & pediatric nurses, IBCLCs and postpartum specialists.
Feedback from participants has been glowing, as seen in this Google Review: “The Parent Collective is a fabulous forum for information sharing, learning, understanding and bonding. There is something to being a part of a local group vs. any other online forum. You learn detailed information catered to your questions from a fantastic line up of professionals all while creating lasting relationships with local couples who are in your exact situation. Highly suggest for not only first-time parents, but also those looking to have their second, or third!”
Dr. Shieva Ghofrany, Obstetrician with Coastal Obstetrics & Gynecology in Stamford, Conn. said: “I am thrilled to recommend these classes to my patients. While all parents are concerned about their baby’s health, far too often we ignore the emotional wellbeing of the parents. The Parent Collective not only offers educational classes but it also provides a supportive social network, filling a crucial hole in the maternity experience.”
Hill hopes that these classes will create playmates for children and a circle of friends that will grow with your family.
Postpartum classes will be launching in Westport in April 2019 and Long Island & Bergen County NJ shortly thereafter. Classes are small and space limited so advanced booking is essential.
