School Gear Tips from Fabricare | Greenwich Moms

School is back in session, which means it’s time for your kids to swap out their bathing suits for school gear. It also means it’s time to get prepared for the inevitable stains, tears and ill fitting clothing. Don’t worry – Fabricare Cleaners has you covered! Check out Fabricare’s tips to help you get through the school season by salvaging your kids’ clothing as much as possible:
Another school year means another set of stains. Here are some quick solutions for school stains:
Markers/Ink – Let’s hope it’s washable marker, in which case you can launder as usual. But if pen ink or non-washable marker gets onto their clothing, you can blot with a paper towel to remove as much of the stain as you can. Then pour rubbing alcohol onto a paper towel and blot – you should see the stain begin to transfer to the towels. Continue to process until the ink is removed before laundering.
Grass – Apply a stain treater directly to the stain and rub fabric together. Wash as you normally would. If stain persists, mix 1 part white vinegar with 1 part water, and treat stain with solution. Wash again.
Juice – Rinse/soak the garment in cool water to remove as much of the stain as possible. Treat with a small amount of stain treater and rub fabric together. Allow to sit for 10-20 minutes, then wash in the hottest water allowed based on the garment care instructions.
Call the professionals – Our team of experts at Fabricare Cleaners can remove stains from any material, leaving your kid’s favorite sweater or expensive school uniform looking good as new! And since back to school means back to crazy schedules, you can download our FAB APP for simple, on-demand dry cleaning, or to schedule recurring laundry service.
Instead of buying a new part of pants each time your child grows another inch, consider making alterations to the clothing they already own. You can do simple alterations yourself, or trust the experts at Fabricare Cleaners to make alterations to nearly any type of material – whether it’s to accommodate that extra inch, or to repair the inevitable tear your child comes home with.
Another great alternative? Think about donating items that are still in good condition. Fabricare will pick up these articles of clothing at no charge, and donate them to those in need — give us a call at 203-229-0001 to schedule a pick up, and we will handle the rest.
