Plan a Trip to the Bronx Zoo! | Greenwich Moms

Finally, Spring weather is here to stay (we hope)! The warmer weather is beckoning us to go outside and have some fun. It’s a great time to plan a visit to the Bronx Zoo. The zoo is a great place to bring the family and this itinerary makes the day manageable while still rich in fun and excitement!
BUG CAROUSEL
Is your family partial to grasshoppers? Or maybe you’re vulnerable to the allure of the dung beetle? It’s all here on our entomological carousel. Hop on.
CHILDREN’S ZOO
Feed the goats, pet the sheep, pump water for the miniature horses— the farmyard at our recently redesigned Children’s Zoo is a can’t miss stop for kids (and adults).
4-D THEATER
A great way to break up the day. The 4-D Theater is an immersive experience—a kid-friendly 3-D film with the added excitement of a variety of built-in sensory effects. Please note: this experience is geared for children ages 6 and up, and is not recommended for children under 4.
CONGO INDOOR AREA
Take a stroll over to Africa. Even before the calendar fully flips to summer, there’s a lot to see here. Did we mention there are monkeys? Always a favorite.
BIG BEARS
The grizzly bears are always a sight, splashing in the water or scaling the rocks. There are a few options for viewing them, so make your way along the path to find the best angle.
SEA LION FEEDINGS
Time your walk down Astor Court right. Sea lion feedings are at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and they’re always a big hit. Watch from up close as these curious and intelligent animals respond to cues from our zoo keepers.
PENGUIN FEEDINGS
The Sea Bird Aviary is an immersive experience with some of the most charismatic and interesting birds around. Come by at 3:30 (perhaps right after a sea lion feeding) to see the penguins there dine.
WORLD OF REPTILES
Turtles, snakes, and frogs. Oh my! You won’t believe the diversity of species on exhibit here. Or how small some of them are early in life, as you can see when you peek up close at our reptile nursery.
A Wild Asia Monorail and a Zoo Shuttle are also available for less walking!
FAQs
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO SEE THE ZOO?
With 265 acres of wildlife habitats and attractions, it’s difficult to see the entire zoo in one day. For shorter visits, take a two-hour tour of our most popular exhibits, like Tiger Mountain, Himalayan Highlands, Congo Gorilla Forest, and World of Reptiles. During the warmer months, guests with young children can begin their visit at the Children’s Zoo and then stroll Astor Court to meet our sea lions and visit Madagascar!
IS THERE A DAY WHEN ADMISSION IS FREE?
General admission is free all day on Wednesdays at the Bronx Zoo. Please consider making a donation to help support our operating costs, and to aid our work in caring for animals here in New York and around the world. We appreciate your support!
AM I ALLOWED TO BRING FOOD INTO THE ZOO?
Yes, picnic areas and tables for boxed lunches are provided at the Dancing Crane Café and throughout the park. Please abide by the posted rules in exhibits where food and drink are prohibited.
CAN I RENT A STROLLER?
A limited number of strollers are available for rent at each entrance on a first-come, first-served basis.
CAN I BRING MY OWN STROLLER? ARE THERE ANY STROLLER RESTRICTIONS?
Yes, you can bring your own stroller. Some buildings and exhibits request that you stow your stroller in a designated area before entering.
To make your visit even more enjoyable, be sure to check out the zoo’s website to get an idea of the layout, where your family’s favorite animals are housed, and the location of the nearest bathrooms and food pavilions. http://bronxzoo.com/map The zoo is great activity for the whole family!
