Picture Perfect | Greenwich Moms

Do you get photo happy around the holidays? We do! We asked Katie Farro, head photographer at Classic Kids on Greenwich Avenue, for a few tips for taking the perfect photo of your kids.
“The key is to keeping everyone relaxed and comfortable. Just have a blast! We strive to make every photo shoot like one big play date. Having fun will always make a difference in your photos. It will show.
Let them be kids! Remember, that children do not need to be perfectly posed in order to get a fantastic shot. Also, don’t stress about band-aids, braces or bruises. Imperfections are charming and make kids look like themselves. Don’t insist that hair is perfectly styled. Natural is truly timeless.
Never say “smile” or ask the kids to “say cheese”. This is a general rule of thumb at Classic Kids. When you do this, the mouth will smile but the eyes will not. You want the eyes to smile and sparkle! You must work for your smiles by entertaining and engaging with your subjects. Figure out what it is that will get them to respond in a way that will get them to shine!
Get down on their level. The photographer needs to bring the camera down to eye level. Lay on the floor if necessary.
Fill the frame with your subject.  A nice close shot can be far more interesting and expressive.
Choose comfortable clothes the kids (or adults!) like. Again, comfort is always key.” Thank you for sharing your expertise, Katie!
