Trish Pepe Lauden grew up in Greenwich, and attended Convent of the Sacred Heart. She now lives in the Lehigh Valley area of Pennsylvania with her husband and four kids, where she launched ROOT Crafted, with business partner and fellow mom (and former Stamford resident) Diane Aemisegeo.

ROOT consists of gourmet, organic cocktail mixers, in flavors ranging from Granada (pomegranate and lemongrass) to Au Pear (pear, lemon and orange). Ingredients are simple, and include organic cane sugar and fruit purees.  The two mothers (Trish’s are 13, 11, 9 and 4, and Diane’s are 12 and 8) spoke to Greenwich Moms about this tasty project, as well as their new lives as mompreneurs. Plus, don’t miss their take on a Spicy Margarita, below!

Tell me about ROOT Crafted, which I love! Why did you start it?

ROOT Crafted is an organic, all-natural craft cocktail mixer. Simple to use—add your favorite spirit or prosecco and you have a cocktail that tastes like it came from an amazing mixologist.

What are your hopes for the business with the next few years?

To keep drinking;)  But really, to grow ROOT—increase the breadth of our distribution, add more cocktails and maintain the integrity of our product!

What do your kids think of your entrepreneurship?

Our kids LOVE it! They are super supportive. We love that they have watched us take an idea of fun cocktails and bring it to market (ROOT also makes fantastic cocktails so our kids LOVE ROOT…for a great alternative to soda or Shirley Temples, just add seltzer).

What’s your favorite part of being a mom?

Trish: My kids are all so different and it is so fun watching them grow and see their very different personalities. They are all so loving and funny!

Diane: Watching how they develop into the strong young women that they are. Teaching me on a daily basis to stop and smell the roses and enjoy the moment.

What’s the hardest part for you?

Trish: Balancing time for each child—with 4 kids and as busy as they are and I am, it is very difficult to juggle giving each individual attention that they crave.

Diane: I always feel that there is never enough time in the day and never enough time given to my children and their unique personalities.

If you had one day all to yourself, what would you do?

Trish: Workout and long hike, maybe a massage and definitely end it with drinks (and dinner) with my husband.

Diane: Absolutely workout and then workout again….rehydrate with cocktails and dinner, out….no cooking, with my husband and good friends!
