Can you tell us a bit about yourselves and why you launched your business?

Loring: I live in Greenwich, CT with my second husband. Together we have five adult “children”; my husband has a daughter, and we each have 2 sons. I grew up playing team sports but never felt comfortable going to a gym to follow a workout regimen. Figuring a personal trainer at the gym would help me decipher the mysteries of the equipment, I was “sold” by the first person who approached me. Then, when I realized he wasn’t engaged with me, or understood my age imposed physical limitations, I couldn’t figure out how to fire him. I am also a self-professed queen of excuses, especially when it comes to why I can’t work out “today”. Forget YouTube classes—they are not compelling. So, I am the perfect client candidate for SMAT!

I figured I was not alone with this problem, so I started researching whether this was a viable business idea when I came across the Send Me A Trainer franchise.

Josephine: I live in Newtown, Connecticut with my three children (two sons and a daughter) and my significant other (who has two children). I have always been an athlete and exercising has always been an important part of my life. I have also always had a career and tried to balance, motherhood, work and self-care. My love of fitness as well as my desire to provide wellness options for others, especially busy mothers, was the catalyst that enabled me to pursue my passion and launch my business. After researching many options, I realized that owning this business would allow me to align my passions, strengths and values and really help others.

What was your professional background prior to Send Me a Trainer?

Loring: My professional background is in marketing and communications where I worked for companies including Kraft Foods, Pepperidge Farm, Seventeen Magazine, Grey Advertising, and most recently Rail Europe, a half-billion-dollar online rail travel booking business as the Director of North America Marketing. On the wellness side, I am also a Certified Holistic Health Coach and Laughter Yoga Leader!

Josephine: In addition to owning Send Me a Trainer Northern Fairfield County, I am President and Founder of JM Fit for Life. My company provides financial wellness and executive leadership empowerment, coaching, counseling, and facilitation to women, couples, small businesses and organizations. I’m also a Master Certified Life Coach and a Certified Financial Wellness Facilitator, Executive Coach, Keynote speaker and licensed advisor. Prior to this, I was in the financial industry for over 25 years, 22 years in banking in senior leadership positions.

For anyone not yet familiar, what is Send Me a Trainer and how does it different from other training options out there?

Loring: We focus on the needs of the customer and our trainers create a fitness program that completely suits the clients’ needs to achieve their goals. We offer convenience, personalization and an exceptional team of certified personal trainers that were hand selected for our unique program. Clients can view trainer profiles, schedule and log sessions, rotate trainers – all through the convenience of our app.

Which towns do your territories cover?

Loring: Send Me a Trainer Southern Fairfield County covers Greenwich, Stamford, Darien, New Canaan, Wilton, Norwalk

Josephine: Send Me a Trainer Northern Fairfield County covers Trumbull, Monroe, Sandy Hook, Newtown, Brookfield, Bethel, Danbury, Sherman, New Fairfield, Ridgefield, Redding, Weston, Westport, Easton, Bridgeport, Fairfield, Stratford, Shelton

Why is Send Me a Trainer such a good fitness option during the pandemic?

Josephine: All our trainers are personally vetted by each of us with a full background check completed. Our trainers also have had to adapt to offer live virtual training during the pandemic and have found very creative ways to support their clients for a virtual experience. We offer clients a choice for their training needs – in person following the highest level of safety standards or live virtual for those who feel more comfortable with this option. Plus, clients have their choice of several trainers to work with and can view if the trainer has been vaccinated through their profile on the app.

Why is training so important for moms?

Loring: As women and moms, we know the value and importance of making time to care for yourself. If you let that slip it affects your overall wellbeing and ultimately the ability to sustain care for those you love. With a busy schedule and juggling everyone’s needs it’s easy to put off a fitness routine. The benefit of Send Me A Trainer is that the trainer comes to you at a time that suits your schedule resulting in less time driving to and from the gym, finding a sitter, or feeling rushed to fit in a workout while the kids are at school or a playdate. And all that time savings is also a cost savings in the long run. It’s a win-win solution for self-care.

Is there a membership or commitment required?

Josephine: There is no membership required. We offer training programs based on the clients’ goals. We found that for one to achieve real results a commitment of 2-3 times a week is ideal and at a minimum of 4 months. We offer 4-, 8-, and 12-month packages, both live virtual or in person and can customize depending on the client’s needs. We also offer a 4-session trial package to allow new clients to experience our program before making a longer-term commitment.

What is your favorite part of your job?

Loring: Having experienced first-hand the struggle to fit in a regular exercise routing around raising my sons as a single parent, while also juggling a career, I feel I have an appreciation for what our clients are going through and can connect with them on their level. The opportunity to help them make positive changes in their life with Send Me A Trainer is gratifying.

Josephine: As a working mother and busy professional, I understand the importance of regular exercise and taking care of yourself as well as the challenge of fitting everything in. I am also a fitness advocate and participant and I know the benefits regular exercise provides. I love providing women, especially busy moms, the ability to take care of themselves through this program

Do you have any resolution tips for someone trying to get back into an exercise routine for 2022?

Loring: It’s so easy to say I can’t fit exercise into my schedule. My resolution would be to commit to putting your wellbeing first and put it in writing on your calendar! Make it an unbreakable date with yourself. If men can do it, so can women!

Josephine:  Keep your goals small and specific, make fitness and nutrition a priority, don’t go it alone (enlist support!) and track your progress.
