Meet Dr. Jason Weissler of Greenberg Cosmetic Surgery & Dermatology. With offices throughout New York City, Long Island, Westchester, New Jersey and Florida, Dr. Weissler and his colleagues offer cutting edge techniques in a world class facility. We asked Dr. Weissler to share a little bit about his background, specialty and how he’s helping moms look and feel their best!

Can you please tell us a little bit about your professional background and focus?
I have always wanted to be a surgeon. When I was in high school, I spent summer breaks volunteering in plastic surgery practices to gain insight into the field. I became fascinated with the surgical techniques and technology used to address patients needs.

I was accepted to the highly competitive combined B.S./M.D. Early Selection Program at George Washington University where I earned my undergraduate and medical degrees. I completed my plastic surgery residency at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota where I expanded upon my multidisciplinary surgical experience alongside the nation’s leading plastic surgery experts.

I am passionate about restoring form and function for my patients through reconstructive procedures of the face and body such as, rhinoplasty/septoplasty and breast reconstruction. I use cutting-edge cosmetic techniques in facial surgery and body contouring, providing my patients with a bespoke approach utilizing combination procedures such as face lift/eyelid lift/brow lift/neck lift and mommy makeovers including abdominoplasty/liposuction/breast lift/breast reduction. I am board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and take a very personal approach to patient care.

Amazing! Your website says that your philosophy is “the needs of the patient come first”. How does that translate to your practice?
The philosophy that the “needs of the patient come first” has been an integral part of my development as a Plastic Surgeon. Having trained at the Mayo Clinic, where this is the institution’s primary value, my mission is always to adhere to the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and personal responsibility. Building strong relationships and prioritizing patient well-being while addressing individual goals, desires and concerns is key. My commitment and dedication to providing an exceptional experience along with the highest level of care ensures that my patients can rest assured they are in the best hands possible.

What are the most common procedures you’re performing for women in their 30s and 40s?
For younger women in their 30s and 40s, I often present a range of options aimed at refreshing, enhancing, and preserving their appearance to rewind the clock and deliver a more youthful aesthetic. Often, my patients may have had several pregnancies which can significantly impact a woman’s body or perhaps a patient has experienced fluctuations in weight which may have resulted in excess skin or stubborn fat in undesirable areas. I always customize a detailed plan to ensure each patient’s unique goals are met.

Here are some of the most common procedures for young women and mothers:

  1. Breast Augmentation: This procedure involves enhancing the size and shape of the breasts using breast implants or fat transfer techniques. Women in their 30s and 40s may seek breast augmentation to restore lost volume after pregnancy or weight loss or to achieve their desired breast size. If you are not interested in implants, transferring your own fat is also an excellent option to restore volume to the breast (and you get the added benefit of losing some unwanted fat).
  2. Breast Lift (Mastopexy): A breast lift is performed to lift and reshape sagging breasts, creating a more youthful and lifted appearance. Women in their 30s and 40s may opt for a breast lift to address ptosis (sagging) caused by aging, pregnancy, or breastfeeding. This is often combined with breast augmentation as well as with either placement of a breast implant or performing fat transfer.
  3. Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty): This surgical procedure removes excess skin and fat from the abdomen while tightening the abdominal muscles to create a flatter and more toned midsection. Women in their 30s and 40s may undergo a tummy tuck to address loose skin and muscle laxity following pregnancy or significant weight loss.
  4. Mommy Makeover: A mommy makeover is a customized combination of cosmetic procedures designed to address the physical changes that occur following pregnancy and childbirth. Common procedures included in a mommy makeover may include breast augmentation, lift, or reduction, tummy tuck, liposuction, cellulite reduction, vaginal rejuvenation and/or buttock enhancement.
  5. Liposuction: Liposuction is a body contouring procedure that removes stubborn fat deposits from various areas of the body, such as the abdomen, thighs, hips, buttocks, and arms. Women in their 30s and 40s may choose liposuction to achieve a more sculpted and proportionate body contour. I may also include a skin-tightening laser, called Renuvion J-plasma for greater skin retraction resulting in a more toned appearance.
  6. Mini Facelift or Short-scar neck lift: A mini facelift is a surgical procedure that addresses signs of facial aging by lifting and tightening the skin and underlying tissues of the face and neck. Women in their 30s and 40s have a very different anatomy than older patients. Often, younger patients benefit from minor adjustments to the jawline through a mini facelift which specifically addresses the jawline and jowls while also reversing the signs of aging on the neck. A short-scar neck lift is recommended to patients of this age group who may have some stubborn fat in the area under the chin which may not go away completely with liposuction alone. The fat under the muscle is removed through a small incision under the neck which often is not visible.
  7. Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty): Blepharoplasty is a cosmetic procedure that rejuvenates the appearance of the eyelids by removing excess skin and fat deposits and tightening the eyelid muscles. Upper blepharoplasty addresses the excess skin of the upper eyelids which can give women a tired appearance. Lower blepharoplasty is a scar-less procedure I perform to address under-eye bags and puffiness. Both procedures are often performed together with very minimal downtime.
  8. Minimally invasive options (Injectable Treatments/Thread Lifts/Laser Resurfacing): Minimally invasive options are effective solutions for younger patients to complement surgical procedures or as stand-alone treatments for women on the go. Injectable treatments such as Botox and fillers are extremely popular among women in their 30s and 40s to smooth facial wrinkles, lines, and restore lost volume. A thread lift is a great option for women who want to contour their jawline and jowls without surgery, incisions, or downtime. Thread lifts can be performed in-office and allow patients to go back to work or daily routines the very same day. Laser resurfacing is an option for women seeking to rejuvenate and tighten the skin on the face and is most commonly performed around the eyes and mouth, as well as on the entire face.

What are some newer procedures clients might not yet know about?
In recent years, several significant innovations have emerged in the field of aesthetic surgery, offering new techniques and technologies to enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction. Here are some of the procedures I have introduced:

  1. Minimally Invasive Cellulite Removal: While most cellulite treatments approach cellulite blindly from the outside in, there is an incredible minimally invasive tool called Aveli that has clinically demonstrated the long-term reduction and removal of cellulite dimples on the thighs and buttocks. In just one in-office treatment, or along with a surgical procedure, I manually target and release the bands which contribute to the formation of cellulite dimples from the inside out. Aveli is performed using topical numbing when performed as a single in-office treatment and has proven to be one of the most effective modalities available for this common concern.
  2. Fat Transfer and Stem Cell Therapy: Fat transfer, also known as fat grafting or autologous fat transfer, involves harvesting fat from one area of the body and injecting it into another to add volume and enhance contours. One of my favorite procedures to perform is fat transfer to the face. Rather than maintaining filler twice a year, fat transfer is a powerful way to restore youthfulness to areas of the face which may have lost volume over time.
  3. High-Definition Liposuction: I perform high-definition liposuction techniques which are designed to selectively target and remove fat deposits while preserving surrounding tissues. This allows me to sculpt and define specific areas of the body, such as the abdomen, arms, and thighs, to achieve a more toned and athletic appearance.

If a client books a consultation with you, what can she expect from that initial meeting?
During the initial consultation, patients can expect a comprehensive and personalized evaluation. Overall, the consultation is a collaborative process aimed at establishing rapport, understanding goals, and developing an individualized plan to achieve optimal aesthetic results while prioritizing safety and satisfaction.

Here’s what typically occurs during the consultation:

  1. Introduction and Discussion of Goals: The consultation begins with a thorough discussion of the patient’s aesthetic goals, concerns, and expectations along with a comprehensive review of the patient’s medical history. Through a detailed discussion and candid conversation, we will create a personalized treatment plan tailored to each patient’s individual needs.
  2. Discussion of Treatment Options: I will discuss various options, including surgical procedures and non-surgical solutions, to achieve the desired outcome.
  3. Patient Education: I value education and provide every patient with in-depth information about the proposed procedures, including the surgical techniques involved, expected recovery process, and anticipated results. Patients are encouraged to ask questions and clarify any concerns they may have.
  4. Cost and Financial Considerations: My coordinator assists patients every step of the way. We strive to make this process seamless from start to finish. My team and I want every patient to be completely comfortable in every aspect of their experience. My coordinator will discuss dates, fees, payment options, financing plans, and insurance coverage, if applicable.
  5. Preoperative Instructions: Once a patient decides to move forward with surgery, they will meet with me again, at which time they will be provided with preoperative instructions, such as pre-surgical evaluations, medications to avoid, and lifestyle modifications to optimize surgical outcomes.
  6. Follow-Up Plan: I outline the follow-up schedule and postoperative care plan, including the timing of appointments, wound care instructions, activity restrictions, and anticipated recovery milestones.
