Meet a Mom: Rachel Schneider | Greenwich Moms

Meet Rachel Schneider, a Greenwich mother of two. A psychotherapist and clinical social worker, she currently has a private practice where she works with adults. Discover what she and her family love about town, their favorite activities and the best parenting advice she’s ever received.

Do you work and/or volunteer? If yes, please tell us where and what you do.
I am a licensed clinical social worker and psychotherapist specializing in both individual and group therapies. I received my Masters in Social Work in 1999 at the Hunter College School of Social Work and a Certificate in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at The Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy in New York City in 2006. I worked for many years both at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and in private practice in New York City. I currently have a private practice where I work with adults, both individually and in groups, and am currently facilitating several support groups that focus on bereavement.

When did you move to Greenwich, and what led you to settle there?
My husband, David Greenspun, is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon, specializing in breast reconstruction, whose practice is based largely in and near Greenwich, CT. So, in 2013 we moved our family here from Manhattan.

Where do your children go to school, and how did you pick their school?
We have two children. Our daughter attends St. Luke’s School in New Canaan, CT. She started at SLS in fifth grade after touring and falling in love with their art and theater departments. We particularly love the small class learning environment and being part of a caring, challenging, and innovative community. While she has a longer bus ride to school, she wakes up happy to head out the door each morning to greet her friends and teachers!

Our son attends the Eagle Hill School in Greenwich, CT and we can’t speak highly enough about the academic program and the community he gets to be a part of. EHS has an outstanding faculty and staff. He loves to participate on the EHS athletic teams each season and has grown as an athlete and teammate. He looks forward to going to school each and every day and we feel very grateful to live so close to the leading school in the area for language-based learning differences.

What are your favorite family activities in the area?
We love taking our beloved Australian Labradoodle, Ginsburg, to the Babcock Nature Preserve, going to the beach at Tod’s Point, and hunting down the best hamburgers in Fairfield County.

Name one thing people would be surprised to know about you.
I’m incredibly good at catching frogs!

When you need “me time,” what are your favorite ways to escape?
I love to read, spend the day in Manhattan with friends, and drive up to my parents’ lake house in the Catskills.

What’s the best advice you’ve received from another mom/dad?
Everything morphs. Just when you think you’ve mastered something about parenting, your child changes and grows and the ground beneath you shifts.

What is your favorite place in town to:
Have dinner:
At home when my husband is cooking!
Grab coffee: CFCF
Shop for the perfect gift: Diane’s Books or Athena Bookstore
