Meet a Mom: Meet Jackie Krac | Greenwich Moms

Jackie Krac is a Greenwich Mom and the owner of Empanadas on the Go, which offers free delivery of delicious empanadas in Greenwich and Stamford. We spoke to Jackie about her business, how she’s spending quarantine and more!

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?

I am originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina and have lived in the US 20 years (16 years in Greenwich).

Can you please share the names and ages of your kids?

Mom of 5 :   Iñaki (21) , Fermin (19), Teo (16), Joaquina (14), Pedro (7)

What is one thing that would surprise people about you?

That I hate the smell of onions! LOL and we go through hundreds of pounds of them a week now.

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?

I have to thank my “friends like family”, the whole network we met away from family on whom we know we can count for everything and anything, and have become our families.

Favorite things to do with your kids? We love movie nights and family hugs, and fun family trips. My quaranteam time has been very special, creating memories amidst so much uncertainty, new family traditions. We now take turns to cook and surprise the family with a new menu. My daughter’s breakfast for lunch has been the favorite so far!

Can you please tell us a bit about your business?

Three years ago I started a local online catering business. It started off as a fundraiser to help a charity in Argentina that fights infant malnutrition. I made 40 dozen frozen Argentine handmade empanadas and emailed by friends offering my handmade treats. I sold out in a week. I continued for a month until I started getting calls from people I didn’t know so I decided to turn it into a business and continue to donate a portion of proceeds to the cause.

We now have a commercial kitchen in Stamford and people order online for pick up or delivery, or see us at Farmers Markets in the area.  We currently have customers in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Westchester and Fairfield counties. We try to add new products while keeping our frozen product stock always replenished. We provide mostly nourishing , homestyle frozen food for busy people, easy to bake in 20 minutes, great for snacks or meals, and perfect for gatherings. Our main product is the authentic Argentine empanada –a handpie with a savory filling- but have added other signature products over the years.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

Community was key in helping us get to where we are now as it was thanks to word of mouth, recommendations, and eventually an article in Greenwich Free Press and Greenwich Magazine told our story.  Local Farmers Markets allowed us to be vendors and promoted us among their patrons .  Much trust from everyone who gave us an opportunity. During the current pandemic we have been very busy adapting to   customers’ needs as we offered local free delivery to help keep everyone home. Everyone is so gracious and thankful!
