Meet a Mom: Dr. Kim Nichols! - Greenwich Moms

Can you please tell us a bit about yourself personally?

I’m originally from Westchester – a proud alumna of the Hackley School in Tarrytown. I then went to Harvard for my undergrad before attending the NYU School of Medicine and completing my dermatology residency at King-Drew/Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. I worked as a dermatologist in Manhattan for seven years before opening my own practice, NicholsMD of Greenwich, right around the same time my family and I moved to Greenwich. I have three children – Sasha (17), Peyton (14), and Desmond (13) – and one fur baby, Blue.

Why did you decide to go into dermatology?

I’ve wanted to be a doctor since I was a little girl, and I’ve found that dermatology is the perfect combination of two passions – science and art. Being a cosmetic dermatologist allows me to help improve my patients’ confidence throughout each of their significant life moments – and it is so incredibly fulfilling to help people look and feel their best.

What inspired you to start NicholsMD of Greenwich?

I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit, even at a young age. So, after practicing in Manhattan for seven years, and moving from the city to Connecticut, I decided it was time to open my own practice. I developed the concept of NicholsMD of Greenwich when I saw the need for a luxe, Upper East Side experience in Greenwich without sacrificing accessibility.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

When I started my practice here over eleven years ago, I barely knew anyone in Greenwich. Initially, I was grateful to my friends and family for coming to see me as patients and referring everyone they knew, as well as the Greenwich community for welcoming me with open arms. And now, my amazing clients continue to build my practice by spreading the word to their friends and family. I am forever grateful for this town and its gracious, caring people.

Where do you live in Greenwich and what do you love about Greenwich and your neighborhood?

We live off North Maple Avenue, just north of Greenwich Academy. Our home is a haven for my family and I; I love how peaceful and quiet our neighborhood is without being far from the heart of downtown Greenwich. Our corner of Fairfield County truly has it all – beaches, hiking trails, museums, and history, as well as being close to Manhattan.

What are your favorite family activities in the Greenwich community and Fairfield County as a whole?

I love getting out and being active – taking our Bernadoodle, Blue, out for a hike with the kids is a favorite on the weekends. In addition, I love trying new restaurants in the area (I’m a big supporter of local sushi favorites).

What is your #1 tip for moms when it comes to caring for their skin?

I always tell my patients that they don’t need to have a crazy complicated skincare routine, especially when juggling mom life and self care. Instead, I suggest they keep it simple so they can get back to being the superhero moms that they are. My trifecta of essential skincare (which I recommend to every busy mom) includes an antioxidant, a sunscreen, and a retinol.

What is your favorite skincare treatment right now?

I get this question A LOT – and while treatments and technology are ever-changing, I always love my Botox.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve gotten from another mom?

The best piece of advice I’ve been given by another mom is to give 100% with the time that you do have with your children. As a working mother, I use this mantra as a reminder to always be mentally present with family when I’m with them.
