This week’s Meet a Mom is Westchester Mom Kaitlin of Kait & Toby. She is the talented designer behind Kait + Toby, a gorgeous new line of semi-custom necklaces. We love her delicate pieces, and that each one incorporates both diamonds and a stone that is significant to the buyer.
Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town? I’m originally from Fairfield, CT. I moved to the city after college and eventually settled in Harrison, NY with my husband and daughter just over a year and a half ago.
Child(ren) and Age(s)? I have one daughter, Penelope (Penny) age 2 and we have a little boy on the way, due in mid-July.
One thing people would be surprised to know about you…
I’m incredibly afraid of flying. I love traveling, and do so quite often, but I hate the flying part.
Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood? My husband. I literally could not do it without him. He is the glue that holds this whole thing together. He thinks to plan things 10 steps before I do. He plans all of our family trips, books all of our daughter’s activities, plans and buys all of the Christmas and birthday presents, schedules yearly family photo shoots, regularly remembers to track our daughter’s height on the door jam of the pantry, schedules double dates with our friends, literally does it all.
Favorite things to do with your kids? I love snuggling with our daughter. We call it «getting cozy» when we grab a blanket and snuggle up on the couch and read books or go through pictures or just watch a show. Sure it’s fun to spend time together outside and playing games that have us all laughing like crazy, but I know that the snuggling together will eventually come to an end as they get older and I try to savor it now as much as I can.
Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share! I work part-time as a Recruiter at a staffing firm in NYC and I run my jewelry business, Kait and Toby, as a side hustle. I’ve been with my staffing firm for almost 9 years and I just launched Kait and Toby 6 months ago. It’s been quite a juggling act managing my day job with my passion project while also giving attention to my family, and being pregnant. I’m doing my best to take everything day by day.
How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now? Having a community of other moms and mompreneurs has been instrumental in making connections and providing inspiration. Just knowing that there are other moms out there trying to build brands and businesses is a constant reminder that we can all do and be whatever we want. It just takes hard work, consistency and perseverance.
