For many of us, this summer feels a little like a social reentry of sorts. Mask restrictions are being loosened, the weather is warming up and our calendars are looking a little more like they usually do. On that note, we are ready to give a little more love to our appearance, including our hair. We asked Paulo Lanfredi, who owns the family-friendly Paulo Lanfredi salon on Greenwich Avenue, to share some of his tips for fabulous summer hair—and what some of his salon clients are saying about this popular salon.
Consider Keratin
On our part of the East Coast, humidity and the resulting frizz factor are your biggest enemy—and Keratin treatments are an excellent weapon. “We offer traditional and organic keratin treatments which are great for taming frizz and smoothing out the cuticle of the hair. This helps fight that big fluffy summer hair caused by moisture in the air,” explains Paulo. He adds: “A consultation is recommended before your appointment to ensure which treatment (traditional or organic) will better suit your hair.”
Find the Right Products
What might work well in the middle of winter might not be the right product through the warmer summer months. Anti-humidity products, for instance, are key, says Paulo. He recommends Shu Uemura’s Essence Absolue Nourishing Protective Hair Oil or Oribe’s Anti-Humidity spray.
Make Masks Part of Your Routine
Masks aren’t just for faces—they’re a great way to give hair a little extra TLC. “At home hair masques as well as in salon treatments are great to keep your hair looking and feeling fresh and healthy! We recommend the Pre-Art salon professional treatment used to demineralize the hair and get rid of any harsh build up,” says Paulo. These masks are great for everyone but particularly effective for swimmers who are exposed to chlorine often.
Try a New Style
In addition to keeping your hair healthy, a new color or cut can give it new life. “Trends we’re seeing this year are long “curtain” bangs or shag bangs, and bold colors, like deep rich brunette or bright balayage highlights,” says Paulo.
