Enter a magical environment all aflutter with beautiful tropical butterflies in “Flutter Zone,” a special walk-through encounter that’s back for the summer at The Maritime Aquarium. “Flutter Zone” has returned and will be open through Sept. 5 (Labor Day) on the Aquarium’s riverfront courtyard. As during its popular Maritime Aquarium run in summer 2015, the exhibit will feature dozens of varieties of vibrant butterflies from both Asia and South America. The air itself seems to dance with color as you walk through “Flutter Zone.” Some of the butterflies may even land on you!
Displays emphasize the horticultural and agricultural importance of butterflies and other pollinators. Plus, adjacent to “Flutter Zone” along the Norwalk River, Aquarium guests can be inspired for home planting by a small “pollinators’ garden” filled with flowering plants that native butterflies specifically seek for food and egg-laying. Visitors to “Flutter Zone” also can watch the life cycle of butterflies unfold, in a special display featuring the chrysalises whose metamorphoses will keep the exhibit stocked with flittering butterflies throughout the summer. Entry into “Flutter Zone” will be free with Aquarium admission. The exhibit will be a perfect complement to the IMAX movie “Flight of the Butterflies.”
For visitors with an aversion to close encounters with animals, viewing of the butterflies will be possible from outside the exhibit.
