Greenwich Library – Celebrate America 250: Greenwich Townscape Mural Debuts with Music by On the Trail Bluegrass

July 9 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Join us for the inaugural presentation of the completed Greenwich Townscape murals, paired with a Peterson Unplugged concert featuring On the Trail Bluegrass, in a joyful community celebration honoring America 250. Registration is not required, but seating is limited and available first come, first served.

Over five months, Greenwich residents shared photographs and participated in hands-on collage workshops with artist Rashmi Talpade to help create seven stunning mural panels depicting local landmarks past and present. Before their permanent installation in two locations within the Library, this event offers a special one-time opportunity to view all seven framed panels together as a complete work.

The lively music of On the Trail Bluegrass will bring a distinctly American sound that perfectly complements this celebration of community, history, and creativity. Don’t miss this memorable evening of art, music, and local pride.

Rashmi Talpade, based in Wallingford, Connecticut, is an accomplished artist known for her innovative photo-collages constructed from hundreds of her photographs. Her work transforms everyday scenes into compelling visual narratives. Rashmi has led numerous largescale grant supported community collage projects at schools, libraries, hospitals, and cultural institutions. A recipient of a Connecticut Commission on the Arts fellowship, her award winning collages are included in the New Britain Museum of American Art and several public and private collections.

On the Trail is a modern acoustic band that explores everything from bluegrass to contemporary pop, from stunning instrumentals to beautiful traditional songs. The group was founded through their love of bluegrass and the band the Punch Brothers. They have already gained recognition and praise for their exploration and strong execution of the challenging music, as well as for their new original music. Most recently, On the Trail had the honor of winning the 2022 Thomas Point Beach Band Competition after participating in 2021’s Telefunken Battle of the Bands at the Podunk Bluegrass Festival. They also were selected as an Emerging Artist at Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival 2023. On The Trail features Austin Scelzo (fiddle and vocals), Tom Polizzi (mandolin and vocals), Charlie Widmer (guitar and vocals) and Matt Curley (upright bass and vocals).
