Be Safe! | Greenwich Moms

“Safety Town” is a comprehensive one week safety education program offered every summer that teaches awareness and accident prevention skills to local children entering kindergarten in the Fall.
Originally brought to the area by the Junior League of Greenwich, Safety Town is now a program offered by the American Red Cross Greater New York Region.
Under guidance of classroom teachers, police officers, firefighters, EMS and other community helpers, children learn in an indoor classroom setting as well as on a specially designed kid-sized “Safety Town” layout.
Children are fitted with their own bike safety helmet that they use for the week, and then take home to keep. They ride pedal cars, walk and “shop” through the town complete with buildings, crosswalks, sidewalks, and street markings. They also tour an ambulance, fire truck and school bus.
Daily lessons are followed up with take-home handouts and additional reference information for parents and caregivers. At the end of each week of training, the graduates each received a Safety Town diploma.
