Meet Dr. Laura Meyer! A Reproductive Endocrinologist at Illume Fertility.
Primarily seeing patients in Harrison, NY, as well as Stamford and Norwalk, CT locations.

What inspired you to become a Reproductive Endocrinologist?
Once I did my Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility rotation as an OB/GYN resident, I was hooked! I loved supporting and caring for patients during what can be a difficult and vulnerable time, and sharing in their joy when they achieved a successful pregnancy. I was fascinated by the science of the field, and the constant evolution of technologies and treatment options. It is truly an honor to help people build their families!
What strategies do you use to balance your professional life and family responsibilities?
Balance is always a challenge! I try to stay fully present in the moment for both my patients and my family, so that I can give focused care and attention both at work and at home.
What advice do you have for others striving to find harmony between work and family life?
Balancing a busy career and a full family life is a constant juggling act. I don’t think that there is one straightforward solution, and no one strikes a perfect balance 100% of the time – at least I don’t! From a logistical perspective, it is very helpful to have a strong support system, and to plan ahead as much as possible. We keep a joint family calendar and do lots of prep on the weekends to make the weekdays run more smoothly.
How do you manage the demands of being a doctor while also being a dedicated mom?
I am lucky to feel very passionate about my job, and to really enjoy my time spent with patients and colleagues. Outside of work, I have found it is helpful to prioritize moments of family time in the hustle and bustle of the week. Even simple activities like cooking and eating dinner together, playing a family board game, or reading together before bed allow for focused quality time. On the weekends, when we have a bit more time, I try to carve out one-on-one time with my kids whenever I can.

Can you share any tips for other moms in the medical profession on achieving work-life balance?
It is incredibly fulfilling and rewarding to work in healthcare and be in a helping profession. It can also come with an intense schedule and workload. I think it is helpful to acknowledge and understand that both professional and family needs will evolve over time, and to try to adjust and adapt to these changes as they occur. That being said, I also encourage working moms to give themselves some grace, as life is often hectic, and things don’t always work out as planned. Tolerating some (happy) chaos comes with the territory of motherhood!
How has being a mom influenced your approach to patient care and empathy in your profession?
My favorite part of my job is building relationships with my patients. Infertility can be a difficult road, and as their physician, I share in their joys and sorrows along their path to parenthood. Being a mother fuels and motivates me daily to help patients make it to the other side of this journey. There is nothing better than helping someone to become a parent! I absolutely love hearing pregnancy updates and receiving baby pictures after patients graduate from my care. 💖
