Welcome to The Well! | Greenwich Moms

This story was contributed by our new wellness columnist, Michelle Calarco.

Well…hello there! And welcome to The Well!

The structural meaning of the word “well” refers to a deep hole dug in the ground to provide a supply of water. In a time where our health has never been more in focus, we want to be your “well” for all things well.

The Well will serve as a resource for healthy living and feature content and Q&As with thought leaders on a variety of topics across food, fitness, skincare, beauty, travel, mindfulness and more. The Well author Michelle Calarco (bio below) will contribute stories with a local flavor for Greenwich Moms and additional stories for our parent site, The Local Mom Network.

Just what is wellness, anyway? We asked a few moms that very question, and found – as you might expect – that this concept means something different for everyone.

“Wellness means not feeling guilty that I took time for myself. When I make time to go walking with a friend or do a
yoga class I come back to my kids feeling like a better mom.”

  • Dina, age 51, mom of 5

“Wellness to me is a present mind, a calm heart and lots of fresh fruit and veggies.”

  • Alli, age 39, mom of 2

“Wellness means balance – a focus on individual needs for physical and mental health. I try to schedule ‘me time’ each week so that I can take care of my own wellness, which hopefully translates into even better parenting.”

  • Jillian, age 32, mom of 1 with another on the way!

Life is busy and it can be hard to find time for self-care. But caring for ourselves refuels our minds and bodies and in turn helps us better care for others.

So, come take a sip from The Well each week and let us take care of you.

Keep an eye out for our official launch next Wednesday where we talk with best-selling author and mindfulness expert Mallika Chopra about simple ways to incorporate mindfulness into our everyday lives.
