9-11 Remembrance Services Set for Cos Cob Park Memorial | Greenwich Moms

SEPTEMBER 11TH SERVICE
8:46AM – 10:28 AM * COS COB PARK

The service will take place with all social distancing protocols and safety measures in place. The family members will be supported by the Town’s elected officials, first responders, and community, as all will remember the fallen. The service will start promptly at 8:46 am with a cannon and bell ringing noting the time the North Tower was hit. Participants will gather at Cos Cob Park’s parking lot and follow the Honor Guard past the waterside pavilion where flowers will be available to lay at the base of the memorial. There will be a prayer at the memorial by Greenwich Police Chaplin, Thomas L. Nins, and all will continue through the labyrinth to pay their respects. The Honor Guard will stand at attention and bells will ring at noted times until 10:28 am. The service will also include a reading of the names of the 33 Greenwich victims.

Members of the community’s first responder’s organizations; Greenwich Police, Greenwich Fire, and Greenwich Emergency Medical Service will present the colors with an Honor Guard. The annual ceremony paying tribute to those who were lost, will conclude with a benediction, retreat of the colors, and the final bell and cannon at 10:28am. Flowers will be available in the pavilion throughout the day for those who visit the site on their own. There will be no seating this year.

On September 11, 2001, so many innocents were lost to such a horrific act of terror – including 33 people with ties to Greenwich. They were mothers, fathers, sons, daughters who each left behind their families and friends a legacy of love and ultimate sacrifice. With that in mind and heart, it is only fitting that as a compassionate community we united and built a September 11th Memorial. The Memorial was 100% privately funded and was offered as a gift to our town.

Freedom. Liberty. Forever.
