2019 Stand Against Racism | Greenwich Moms

Stand Against Racism is a signature event of YWCA Greenwich to raise awareness about the negative impact of institutional and structural racism in our communities. This event is one part of our larger national YWCA strategy to fulfill our mission of eliminating racism.

This year’s event will take place on Friday, April 26, 2019, from 12:00 – 12:30 pm at Town Hall.  The event is free and open to the public.  Participants will be asked to join in a group picture demonstrating their pledge to stand up against all forms of racism.

This year’s guest speaker will be Claudia Connor, President and CEO, Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants. The event will also include a presentation of two YWCA Racial Justice Scholarship Awards to deserving students who demonstrate a commitment to social justice.

Each year we create a poster with the names of clergy, businesses, government agencies, and non-profit organizations that agree to take a Stand Against Racism.  Copies of the 2018 poster currently sits at Town Hall and at the YWCA.  This year, we are asking supporters to not only submit the name of your organization, but to also commit to either attending the event yourself or sending representatives. A group photo will be taken of all those who participate and will be distributed through social media and traditional news outlets.

We are hoping to have representatives from all parts of our community – schools, businesses, clergy, non-profits and government employees. For those interested in creating a poster to hold, YWCA Greenwich will provide templates, or you can create your own from scratch.

We believe this Stand Against Racism can be our way of uniting the Greenwich community in a bold demonstration that delivers a clear message: we are on a mission to eliminate racism.
