Seven Bridges Foundation was established as a nonprofit in 1993 by Richard McKenzie to support both established and emerging living artists and to promote their creativity. Seven Bridges Executive Director, Jamie DiMicelli will lead this tour and highlight the world-class sculpture garden on this 80 acre estate in backcountry Greenwich.
The sculpture collection was sited to take advantage of the natural and cultivated surroundings.
3,000 trees, which McKenzie sees as their own art form, have been planted since he purchased the property in 1992. Dawn redwoods, river birch, and Japanese maples are among the most prevalent tree species.
The property is a combination of open lawn, tree groves, forest, perennials, rock outcroppings, small creeks, multiple ponds, and indeed, seven bridges. Sculptures, deliberately placed in the landscape, represent a number of accomplished artists, including Paul Day, Don Gummer, Peter Woytuk, Sophie Ryder, and McKenzie himself.
