The Garden Club of Old Greenwich and the Perrot Memorial Library invite you to “The Sinister Side of Gardening,” an evening with Marta MacDowell, on Wednesday, October 23, at 7 pm, in the Program Room, Radcliffe Building, Perrot Memorial Library.
With their deadly plants, razor-sharp shears, shady corners, and ready-made burial sites, gardens make an ideal scene for the perfect murder. Marta McDowell, a writer and gardener, illuminates the many ways in which our greatest mystery writers, from Edgar Allen Poe to Agatha Christie to modern bestselling authors, have found inspiration in the sinister side of gardens.
Marta McDowell teaches landscape design history and horticulture at the New York Botanical Garden and is a popular lecturer and writer. Her garden writing has appeared in popular publications, including Woman’s Day, Country Gardening, and The New York Times. Marta’s work typically follows the relationship between the pen and the trowel, that is, authors and their gardens.
