Greenwich Library – James Joyce’s Life: A Literary Discussion with Jesse Meyers

Join Jesse Meyers for a lunchtime literary discussion on James Joyce. The first of a three week series, this discussion will focus on the life of one of the most influential writers of the 20th century, James Joyce, who was born in Ireland in 1882 and died in Zurich Switzerland in 1941. Jesse Meyers will discuss how the world and events surrounding Joyce had an impact on the famous works he penned.

Jesse Meyers has been studying, teaching, and lecturing on the works of Joyce since retiring from newsletter-publishing in 1994. He has taught classes on Joyce at the Irish Consulate in NYC, at Barnes & Noble in NYC and at Fairfield University, the State University of New York at Purchase and — for seven years — at NYU’s School of Continuing Education. He has lectured on Joyce before public and private organizations in the US, Canada, Ireland, France and Switzerland. More than 7,000 viewers have watched Jesse’s 2022 lecture at Greenwich Library on the vast cultural impact of Joyce’s epic novel, Ulysses.  In Spring 2024, the Ulysses lecture was expanded to a 12-week session at Greenwic Library. This three-week literary session starting  October 7 at Greenwich Library which looks at James Joyce’s Life, James Joyce’s Poetry and Limericks, and the Global Cultural Impact of James Joyce’s Works.
