Afternoon in the Archives Enables a Deeper Look at Sporting Culture in Greenwich
To kick-off its new exhibition on the dynamic history of sporting culture, Sports! More Than Just a Game, Greenwich Historical Society presents a series of events aimed at developing a deeper understanding of sports and their impact on culture and society. The series initiates with lectures on the indigenous roots of lacrosse and the historic sport of wicket, a precursor to baseball, and an afternoon with Archives and Curatorial staff in the Historical Society Library & Archives for a fascinating journey into ephemera, photographs and other collection items relating to sporting culture. Themed events will continue throughout the summer.
Greenwich Historical Society archives and curatorial staff invite visitors for an afternoon in the Library & Archives, for an afternoon spent delving deeper into archival ephemera, photographs and other collection items relating to the rich social history of sporting culture in Greenwich. In celebration of Women’s History Month, this March edition of Afternoon in the Archives will focus on stories relating to Greenwich’s many female athletes and women’s sporting endeavors.
