Discounts and Workshops for Scouts on Saturday at the Maritime Aquarium | Greenwich Moms

Per their motto of being prepared, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts should prepare now for admission discounts and special workshops planned for Scout Day on Sat., March 24 at The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk.
Although March 24 and Scout Day is still several weeks away, there are incentives to sign up now: a limited number of badges and limited space in that day’s Scout workshops.
Any Girl Scout or Boy Scout wearing her or his uniform to the Aquarium on March 24 receives a discounted price: $14 for children ages 3-12; $18 for adults; and $16 seniors 65+. This discount applies to Scouts of all levels, even adult Scout leaders.
For Scouts, that’s a thrifty resource savings off the regular ticket prices of $17.95 for children, $24.95 for adults, and $22.95 for seniors.
But advance purchase at www.maritimeaquarium.org/badge-programs is recommended, because the first 1,000 Scouts who buy tickets will receive a Maritime Aquarium Scout Day badge.
Aquarium admission includes a daytime IMAX® movie showing on the six-story screen, the largest in Connecticut. Fittingly, Scout Day coincides with the March 24 premiere of a new IMAX movie: “Backyard Wilderness,” a perfect subject for nature-oriented Scouts. This beautifully filmed movie was shot in nearby Westchester County, N.Y., so its images and its message are especially relevant. “Backyard Wilderness” shows how our focus on electronic devices causes us to often overlook a fascinating menagerie of wildlife right outside our homes, including deer, coyotes, wood ducks, frogs, salamanders, raccoons, hummingbirds and more.
On March 24, “Backyard Wilderness” will play at 11 a.m., noon, and 1, 2, 3 & 4 p.m.
Plus on March 24, a selection of special workshops are available to Scouts. They range from the one-hour “Life Between the Tides” for Scouts in Grades 2-3 to a nearly three-hour “Animal Habitats Junior Girl Scout Badge” workshop for Grades 4-5. Costs vary from $5 to $18 for the classroom workshops. There’s also a two-hour “Science on the Sound Cruise” for all ages aboard the Aquarium’s unique hybrid-electric research vessel for $15.
Space in the workshops is limited, so advance registration is strongly recommended. Several merit-badge programs and a March 24 Scout sleepover already are full.
