We had the pleasure of sitting with Cristina Young, a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) with a private practice in downtown Greenwich. Her specialty is working with parents. She sees individual adults regarding a wide variety of issues, such as understanding relationship issues, managing anxiety, developing a stronger sense of self, learning effective parenting strategies, and navigating family dynamics. She also works with older children and teens who are struggling. Finally, she runs workshops on a variety of parenting issues and she facilitates three weekly support groups for mothers. Cristina provides a comfort zone like no other and we highly recommend her to assist in all individual and family matters!

GEMS: Gathering Encouraging Moms’ Support
(For Mothers of Boys Ages 9-11)
GEMS is a place for mothers of boys to meet for advice, tips, conversation and camaraderie. In the spirit of a support group, GEMS offers mothers a safe, comfortable space in which to learn, discuss, and lend encouragement to one another while under the guidance of a caring professional. The goal of the facilitator, Cristina Young, is for mothers to leave each meeting with some sort of “gem” or “nugget” of truth—a piece of practical advice that might inspire or energize mothers as they parent their boys.
Discussions can include topics, such as:
-managing technology in the home -helping kids find safe, reliable friends
-helping with executive functioning -using praise to grow positive behaviors
-running weekly family meetings -navigating unwritten rules at school -developing good communication -co-parenting successfully with spouse
-modeling healthy coping mechanisms -discussing body changes/body image
-finding balance as a mom -figuring out when to let kids fail
Time: 9:30-10:30am on Mondays
Session: January 11—February 29, 2016 (six sessions)
Location: 45 E. Putnam Ave. Suite 119
(same building as Mitchell Gold and Ted the Tailor)
Participants: Limited to 8-9 mothers for better group interaction
Cost: $150 for 6 sessions or $30/drop-in fee

Meet Your Facilitator: Cristina Young is a LCSW in private practice in Greenwich, CT. She has more than 20 years worth of experience providing professional support to children, adolescents, adults, and families in schools, hospitals, and clinical settings. Her true passion as a parent educator and coach is evident in her parenting groups. Cristina received her MSW from the University of Southern California and her BA and teaching degree from Barnard College, Columbia University. She and her husband have three children, ages 11, 13, and 16.
